K-pop boy band Treasure made a great start in their music career by posting the highest first-week album sales among artists who made their debut this year.

Treasure made their debut on Aug. 7 with single album “The First Step: Chapter One.” The physical version was released on Aug. 13.

The 12-member idol group is composed of Korean and Japanese members: Choi Hyun Suk, Jihoon, Yoshi, Junkyu, Mashiho, Yoon Jae Hyuk, Asahi, Bang Ye Dam, Doyoung, Haruto, Park Jeong Woo and So Jung Hwan.

According to Hanteo Chart, “The First Step: Chapter One” sold 121,943 copies on the first day on Aug. 13, enough to record “the highest Initial Chodong (first week of release) sales record among the artists who debuted in 2020.”

With the impressive feat, Treasure also topped Hanteo’s weekly album chart from Aug. 10 to 16 with 128,767 copies of their debut album sold.

The album’s carrier track “Boy” has topped iTunes Top Songs chart in 19 countries while its music video has reached 23.69 million views based on YouTube’s screen counter since its release on Aug. 7.

Treasure is YG Entertainment’s new group launched in four years since BLACKPINK’s debut on Aug. 8, 2016.

After the release of the album, Treasure had their first TV performance on SBS “Inkigayo” on Aug. 9, a memorable event that made the members cry.

“It was hard to explain since it was our first performance as group Treasure. It wasn’t yesterday, but we shed tears after performing live on the date of debut,” said Hyun Suk, according to YG blog.

Yedam said, “There’s the fact that I’ve practiced for a long time, but it also reminded me of the times we’ve practiced together, and when I looked back after thinking about what we’ve accomplished, Choi Hyun Suk was crying. Then when I saw the members’ faces, I also shed tears.”

Hyun Suk said he “felt emotional thinking of our trainee days. It was hard back then, and tears just came out when I thought of it.”
